The Kluane Lake greets you with a length of 70 km and about 400 sq km of surface area along the St Elias mountains with two fjord's at the northern end. The name Kluane Lake comes from the local language of the Southern Tutchone and means Big Fish Lake. The lake is classified as high quality waters and is one of the best trophy fishing lakes in the Yukon. Since it is high quality all hooks are single and barb less.
Lake trout, Arctic Grayling, Northern pike, Whitefish, Burbot and Inconnu are the main species here. To see some information about each of those species, see our Species of Fish for Kluane Lake. The official scientific name for Lake Trout is Salvelinus namaycush.
Very close to our main cabin is a nice remote fishing place which you are able to catch a good sized lake trout from the shore. Sizes of 30 pounds are not rare to find and you can fish in any weather at minimal cost. Fish of 27 kg (60 lbs) have been seen by knowledgeable fisherman in the crystal-clear waters. Catching one demands everything from both angler and equipment. Every year in July the locals are hosting a popular fishing derby where lake trout over 30 pounds are common.
After a short introduction to the area, you can go fishing on your own along the shores of Kluane Lake or we will set you up with a guide for full or half days. Its up to you to decide how, when and where you would like to go fishing. After a splendid dinner you may want to enjoy the large deck or head back out onto the lake for an evening of fishing in the unlimited daylight. There is always a campfire later in the evening where you can share your fishing tales. If you decide that you would like to go for Salmon we need to know this one week in advance to arrange it. |
